Shabbat/Havdalah Babayit
("Shabbat/Havdalah in the Home")
Young Adult Edition!
As a way to further build our young adult community here at B'nai Havurah, we wanted to modify our Shabbat/Havdalah Babayit model to make an approachable "come as you are" space for young people to experience Jewish community together- all while in the home of another Jewish young adult. We define young adults as anyone 45 and younger. Each gathering will include Shabbat blessings or havdalah, fabulous company, and a meal to share. You are invited to register to attend for the first ever Young Adult Shabbat/Havdalah Babayit below!
This program will continue for with one gathering a month for 3-4 months, as is always open to adjustments as needed. We are currently seeking hosts! Please see the outlines for hosting below.
HOSTING
What we ask for from hosts:
- Have room for at least 8 people
- Provide space to do Shabbat blessings/do havdalah, and host may add additional programming if wanted
- Provide some level of food and drinks (but funding is available and staff will by providing wine and paper goods)
-
Be prepared to welcome people they do not know into their home
The host gets to decide:
- If they want to have any additional theme or activities at their event
- If they want to allow kids to come
- If they want to have shabbat dinner or havdalah and which date they prefer
- How they want the event to be advertised and if they want to communicate with possible attendees directly or have it go through staff
ATTENDING
What we ask for from guests:
- Do not bring any additional people with you beyond who you register for
- Have a genuine interest in the B'nai Havurah community
- Bring an item to contribute to the meal if requested by the host
- Come in with an open mind and a want to meet new people
INCLUSIVITY
We include and celebrate all of our community members. Some homes may not be fully accessible to those who use a cane or wheelchair. Also, not all community members have a means of transportation to dinner. If you have questions regarding the accessibility of a home or need a lift, don't hesitate to contact Hannah at youthandfamily@bnaihavurah.org.
Dinner Three
Young Adult Havdalah Babayit - Aurora
Saturday, March 22nd – 4:30 pm, Dinner at 5:30 pm
We are a family of three (Lo, Andy, and our two-year old Hudson) who has lived in Colorado for four years. We love spending time with our big / growing family, which is why we moved here during the pandemic--to be closer to our beautiful family (who are all now members of B'nai, as well!). We love learning about Jewish values and traditions, and we are always looking for new ways to incorporate new traditions into our family's life. Our son, Hudson, still talks excitedly about wanting to light a 'nora (Menorah) and play with dreidels. Hanukkah was fun for him!
Lo has lots of dietary restrictions, so there will be gluten free and dairy free options as a part of the meal. We will ask guests to bring a side dish or a starter, and can talk more once you RSVP about what the menu might look like. Lo has so many dietary restrictions, we encourage you to tell us about yours--this will be a very allergen-friendly meal. As Andy always says, "everyone deserves to eat delicious food."
In our free time, Andy is a woodworker, Lo is a potter, and Hudson loves to color. Most weekend, we can be found visiting museums, hosting friends and family for gatherings, or hanging out at home with our dog, Buddy.
There is plenty of parking on the street in front of our house (we live in a cul-de-sac). Guests are also welcome to park behind our cars in the driveway. There are two small steps to get into our front door, so the house is accessible to those using a cane or walker who are comfortable with the steps, but, unfortunately, not to those who use a wheelchair. We are looking forward to sharing Havdalah with you and expanding our friendships within the community. This dinner is open to all, and we would especially encourage families with young children to join us.
Please note: In an effort to balance the attendence of current B'nai members with non members, there may be limits to the number of registrants from either group of people. If you see that the registration is closed and you would like to attend, please contact Hannah at youthandfamily@bnaihavurah.org to be placed on a waitlist.
