At this Shabbat,  we welcome special visitor, Ernst Numan.  Ernst is visiting from The Hague, where he is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of The Netherlands, Civil Division. Ernst is a third cousin of B’nai Havurah member Jerry Tinianow. Click here for more information. Ernst’s family and Jerry’s were separated by the Holocaust, with Ernst’s grandmother, Kathe Leffman, fleeing to Holland, while her cousin, Jerry’s grandfather, Dr. Kurt Eichwald, brought his family to the United States. Each family was unaware until recently that the other survived. Thanks to the wonders of the Internet and the good services of the Jewish Museum of Amsterdam, the two families were reconnected last November after being apart for 75 years. Ernst’s visit is the first of what both families hope will be many visits to knit the two families back together. Ernst is active in his synagogue in The Hague and is looking forward to sharing in our celebration of Shabbat.
