Rabbi Bec Richman (she/hers), Torah scribe and artist, will join our community during the weekend of March 8-10, 2024 for a scribal artist residency. Together, we will learn about the role of women in scribing sacred texts, the exacting and expansive work of scribes, the practicalities of writing and repairing sacred texts, and the spiritual connections between scribing and our daily lives. We will have the chance to come close to our own Torah scrolls, witness a scribal arts demonstration, and experiment with writing Hebrew letters.

Childcare provided upon request for all 4 events.

About Rabbi Bec Richman

A mama, soferet (Torah scribe), and potter, Rabbi Bec Richman serves on the faculty of the Jewish Studio Project. In addition to scribing sacred texts, Bec facilitates scribal arts workshops and participatory Torah repairs across the country. Her functional and conceptual pottery integrates hand-carved Hebrew lettering, expanding the landscape of handmade Judaica and art. Bec co-facilitates a Jewish Mama’s Art Circle that integrates reflection and art-making centered on mothering. Her art and facilitation are rooted in the belief that creativity is inherently accessible, healing, and liberatory. A graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and an alumna of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship, Bec lives in Cleveland Heights, OH with her partner and kiddos. Bec’s artwork can be found at kotevetstudios.com.

This series of four educational events is offered by B’nai Havurah's Year of Learning and sponsored by the CBG Family Fund.
